The New Ram 1500 EcoDiesel and eTorque® Engines

The Ram 1500 has been building its reputation as one of the most formidable trucks out there for work and play, with huge towing and hauling stats that set it apart from the competition. With the 2020 Ram 1500 comes a new monster of an engine in the new EcoDiesel engine along with the innovative technology of the eTorque® mild hybrid system.

The New Ram EcoDiesel

After putting their diesel powertrain on the shelf for a few years, Ram re-introduces a turbocharged diesel option in the 3.0-liter V6 that's been redesigned for more efficiency and more low-end torque than ever before, with a maximum tow rating of 12,560 pounds.

The new EcoDiesel engine cranks out a modest 260 horsepower, which is greatly overshadowed by the prodigious best-in-class 480 pound-feet of torque. What's most impressive about these stats is that the peak torque comes at just 1600 RM, which translates to more oomph when it comes to pulling a heavy trailer or payload from a stop or when going uphill at low speeds.

eTorque® Enhancement

The new Ram 1500 is available with two gas engines that employ the energy saving and extra torque generating technology of eTorque®. The 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar® and 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 can be optioned with the mild hybrid system that draws on battery power to push extra torque to enhance the towing capabilities of the Ram 1500. For the 5.7-liter HEMI®, that means a maximum towing capability of 12,750 pounds.
